In a fast paced world, the ups and downs of life takes a toll on everyone. As your business goes sour, or as people drift away from you, it’s hard to remain confident. If you score bad grades, or if you get fired from your dream job, it’s hard to remain positive. Positivity and confidence goes hand in hand. Yet, once you lose either one, it’s hard to get back on your feet. So today I bring to you a couple of tips on how to remain healthy- not physically, but mentally.
The number 1 rule is- don’t wait for others to tell how everything will turn out okay. You need to keep reminding yourself that. When you’re feeling down in the dumps, here’s what I need you to do- stand in front of your mirror and look at yourself. Not your body, your face or your hair. Look into your eyes. Look into your eyes and tell yourself “It’s okay. You can handle this. You are strong”. Say it aloud. Shout it from the rooftops for everyone to hear. You might feel like it wouldn’t work, but it will. It has been psychologically proven that repeating positive words will have a positive impact on you.
But don’t just say it for the sake of it. BELIEVE IT. Belief in yourself goes a long way. It is crucial for you to trust yourself- and why shouldn’t you? You have made it this far- you can go further. Just keep reminding yourself that you are worth it. Because believe it or not, you are definitely worth it.
TAKE A BREATHER
If you are going through a particularly hard break up or you are facing a mid-life crisis, you NEED TO TAKE A BREAK. Don’t for one second think that taking a break is a waste of time. It has been scientifically proven that out of 80 students, the 40 students who took a 20 minute break after every hour of studying scored almost 10% more in an examination. This applies to life as well. Taking a break when your life is about to go through a complete change will help you prepare for what lies ahead. It clears your head of your past actions and routines and makes you much more prepared to take on the new challenge in your life. So take a break.
Once you decide to take a break, the next question that arises is how to take a break. Take a break according to your interests. Has adventure always fascinated you? Go on a road trip. Are you a person who is interested in learning something new? Pick up a new language or learn a new sport. Do you have an inclination toward music or arts? Attend concerts, write songs or pick up a brush and let colours and paints take over. Or just sit back and read a book and transport yourself to a whole new world. The possibilities are endless! The bottom line is, do something you love.
TRAIN YOUR MIND PHYSICALLY
Exercise is a great positivity booster. Physical exercise like running or swimming releases the ‘feel-good’ hormones called endorphins that trigger positive feelings. It is important to remain active. Exercising everyday at a specific time gives a perception of routine. Even if your life is falling apart, you know that you can always count on your everyday workout to remain constant. It stabilizes you when you are going through a hard time. Even Yoga or Zumba will make you feel incredibly good. Just remember- a healthy body= a healthy mind.
